How To Work With Your Attorney
Hire The Right Attorney
You should hire an attorney with the experience necessary to maximize your recovery. The attorney should not only be well versed in the law, but should also have the necessary experience to question the doctors the insurance company hires to give opinions that hurt your case. Be wary of lawyers who handle cases divorce, real estate and wills and also claim to handle injury cases
Communication – We Are Partners With You On Your Case
The number one complaint clients have with their lawyers is they can’t get a hold of them. Even in today’s world with e mails, faxes and telephone, their attorney is just not available. It is very frustrating.
Keep in mind a good lawyer is usually busy lawyer. That means the lawyer is usually in court in the morning and in depositions or client meetings in the afternoon. If the lawyer is on trial, that lawyer could be out of the office for days or even weeks. Even if not in trial or in depositions the lawyer needs uninterrupted time to work on the clients’ matters so sometimes being interrupted by calls is not feasible.
I set aside time every afternoon after 3:00pm to take and return client calls. Our paralegals are here all day to answer questions and provide information.
Keep in mind communication is a two way street. You too must be available to answer questions or provide documents and information
Information
Your lawyer should be able to explain the law that applies to your case to your satisfaction. Your lawyer should be able to explain the strategy of your case and why certain actions are being taken or not taken. You should listen carefully to those explanations. Under no circumstances should you take advice from non-lawyers.
